2018 September Aerospace night at IWLA

12 September 2018 – Mt Airy Composite Squadron met for the second meeting of the month for its first full time meeting at a new location, the Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA), Mt Airy Chapter. Going forward, all meetings will be held on Wednesdays at the Izaak Walton League of America. Physical Training held on the first week of every month may begin at a different location but will end at the IWLA; track location will be announced on the plan of the day.

It’s that time of year again and ‘The Wings of Freedom Tour’ is coming to Carroll County Regional Airport/Jack B. Poage Field, Westminster MD. Carroll Composite Squadron is making the rounds, visiting and inviting neighboring squadrons to assist in the air show. This evening, Carroll Composite visited with Mt Airy Composite and conducted an aerospace history lesson in preparation for the event.

Senior member Lee Milliner presented Civil Air Patrol Five Pillars of Wellness and Resilience to the squadron. The Civil Air Patrol adopted the “Five-Pillars of Wellness and Resilience” to promote living in “wellness” and having good habits that allow all members resiliency during times of stress. Mr Milliner holds the position of Character Development Instructor, he teaches ethical thinking and decision making through monthly case study seminars. His job, as Character Development Instructor, can make a tremendous difference in the life of every cadet; mentoring and instructing them in CAP’s core values of integrity, respect, excellence, and volunteer service.

“The five pillars are Mind, Body, Relationships, Spirit, and Family.  They represent the focus areas that contribute to our personal level of “wellness.” This personal wellness enables us to operate at our best, sustaining us during times of stress and making us resilient to the difficulties of life.  This helps us to be successful as CAP Volunteer Airmen.”  (Maj. Gen. Mark Smith)
