National Training Opportunities National Emergency Services Academy (NESA) This is an ES immersion course held each summer at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. Two consecutive one-week sessions are conducted, whereby aircrews, mission base, and ground crews are compiled from cadets and officers across the U.S. Large scale Search and Rescue exercises are held, along with classroom and field training exercises. Both Basic (GTM 3) and Advanced (GTM1 and 2) Ground Team Search and Rescue Courses are available. Each of these are one-week courses. This is one way to complete your ground team training quickly, but you must apply during the prior winter, when National Cadet Special Activities are offered. You must attend an Encampment prior to attending NESA. Training is also available for Incident Command System, Mission Aircrew (Observer, Pilot, or Instructor), First Responder, and Team Leader. You can visit the NESA website here: http://ngsar.homestead.com/home.html Each year, Maryland Wing arranges vanpools to transport cadets and seniors to and from NESA. If you register for NESA, please be sure to let 1Lt Sharp know, so that your name can be submitted to the individuals handling transportation. 1Lt Denise Sharp and Cadets Zach Bowen and Josh Newsome have all benefited from the NESA program, and would be happy to share their experiences and answer any questions you may have.
