Mt. Airy Composite Squadron
Squadron FEMA:  WHAT CLASSES ARE REQUIRED?
Emergency Services

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

To work well with other agencies, there has to be a common set of terminology and a commonly understood management system that communicates between agencies.   From Hurricane Katrina, the lessons were many.  We now have an ICS (Incident Command System) that is nationally uniform and we are working throughout the U.S. to have a communication system and a grid of agencies that work hand in hand to manage emergencies.

To achieve this goal, each person working in ES must take courses to be sure they understand the system and terminology.  You are required to take some of the many FEMA classes before you will be considered fully trained.  You can operate only as a trainee prior to taking the courses, even if you have completed all other tasks and training.

To take the courses, you can log onto the National Website and link to the on-line classes and get a complete list of the FEMA classes.   ICS 100 is the first class you will need to complete.  ICS 700 is also required to be a GTM.
